Ever find yourself irresistibly drawn to the mystic allure of tarot cards, seeking answers in their enigmatic symbols and archetypes? The Tarot Temptation! The practice of tarot card readings has captured the fascination of many, offering a glimpse into the unknown and a touch of magic in our mundane lives. But as the quest for insight through tarot becomes more frequent, a pertinent question arises: Is getting tarot card readings regularly an addiction?

I was drawn to creating this article because years ago, I met and fell in love (like a sister/mother) an older woman, who unknowingly became my then mentor... she quickly drew me into the world of tarot (I had dabbled but actually didn't need to) - prior to this, I always 100% leant of the gift of my psychic medium word, and it never failed me or others and was mind blowing and she would be the first to tell you that... but she loved tarot and had an addiction for it, I soon came to realise why.

I also came to realise there was a benefit to using tarot - 1. the cards could block nasty energy from a person, and 2. it could actually save you some energy etc. Essentially they are a saviour for more than 1 reason. This was not something she taught me. Something I came to see and realised in time and that leads me to 3. you can use the cards as show and tell and therefore they are more to the benefit of the recipient requiring further reassurance.

She was able to get from me, using tarot, so much more insight and information ie with someone like me, you can just ask a question or wait for me to randomly download a bunch of stuff but with the tarot you are forced, to sit there and download from each card. Therefore giving the recipient of such an addiction, a multitude of wealth of information.

For some, many minutes of info is not enough but sitting across the table with potentially hours worth of information, can fill that additive need or desire.

She milked me in this way for many years or would phone and ask stuff over the phone, without or without cards. Her daughter followed suite. And then a mutual friend.

Yes we did "tradies" (trade readings) over the years but none of their insight compared to mine. They admitted this themselves.

I was only a teen btw, and she introduced me to psychic tarot phone lines, where like her, I was running up phone debts in the hundreds of dollars, chasing insight and answers, that would all later, turn out to be complete BULLSHIT! FAKE AS FUCK READERS! I didn't care at the time and nor did she. She had created a monster in me.

I was able to curb it very quickly though, unlike her.

She is still like this to this day btw, but I am no longer her "friend" because she used and abused my gift like I was a slot machine ffs.

They would all get together nearly every night! YES NEARLY EVERY NIGHT! Trading readings with excited or anger or sadness, whatever was relevant, sometimes all of the above.

Before I knew it, there were midnight calls, 2am, 3am, whatever they felt was necessary to get their fix from me. Eventually I would have to turn my phone off, so that I could get a peaceful nights sleep... that did not always stop them knocking my door down at 1am to get a reading in person, because I was not answering my phone!

Yes some might say these bitches were crazy! My accuracy lured them, the excitement of the predictions playing out, lured them to becoming obsessed with me.

I spent the next 20 years at their mercy, harassed for my gift. I know they all loved me and adored me in many ways, they showed me that in other ways. But by their own admittance, they had an issue. Their every day surrounded around the need to have a reading at least several times a day. Tell me, this is not an addiction.

I played my part. I even did the right thing, urging independence, taking my advice, even when it was harsh "Don't go to that mans house at 1am or he will think you are crazy!"... often they were not taking the advice...

And thus, this leads partially into another story, I will leave for another day about WHY I DO NOT GIVE FREE OR CHEAP READINGS... When the blog is up - that will be it's title.

Unveiling the Tarot Mystique

Tarot cards have long served as a tool for introspection, guidance, and spiritual exploration. Each card holds layers of meaning, inviting individuals to reflect on their situations, emotions, and paths ahead. The allure of the tarot lies in its ability to offer a different perspective, sparking introspection and inspiring personal growth.

The Fine Line Between Fascination and Fixation

While the allure of tarot can be enticing, it's essential to tread carefully to discern between fascination and fixation. Just as with any pursuit, there's a fine line where a hobby may transform into a habit or even an addiction. In the case of tarot readings, the key lies in understanding the intentions behind seeking guidance from the cards.

Signs of Tarot Dependency

1. Frequency Over Reflection:

Do you find yourself turning to tarot cards more for reassurance than for genuine insight? When the frequency of readings surpasses the time spent reflecting on the messages received, it might signal a dependence on external validation.

2. Emotional Reliance:

Are you relying on tarot readings to navigate every decision or emotional challenge? While tarot can provide guidance, excessive dependency on it for emotional stability might indicate an underlying need for introspection and self-reliance.

Dissecting the Addiction Dilemma

The concept of addiction typically conjures images of substance abuse or compulsive behaviours. However, addiction can manifest in various forms, including those that may seem harmless on the surface, such as seeking frequent tarot readings. Addiction, at its core, involves a compulsive behaviour that provides temporary relief or pleasure but ultimately hampers one's well-being and inhibits personal growth.

Tarot Addiction vs. Passion

Passion for tarot is rooted in a genuine interest in the symbolism, psychology, and spiritual aspects of the practice. It involves a balanced approach that harmonizes fascination with critical thinking and self-awareness. On the contrary, tarot addiction manifests as a compulsive need for readings to appease anxiety, seek constant reassurance, or escape reality momentarily. Some of that can be fine and ok, as long as, there is balance! As long as the insight you are receiving is legit! A READING IS NO GOOD, IF THE INSIGHT IS BULLSHIT!

You will spiral down, get hateful, angry, hurt, upset and all of those things, that are totally understandable!

If the reassurance of knowing you just received the truth, cures you anxiety - then PERFECT!

Finding Balance and Introspection

If you resonate with the inquiry of tarot addiction, fret not; acknowledging the fine line between intrigue and compulsion is the first step toward balance. Here are some tips to maintain a healthy relationship with tarot card readings:

  • Mindful Reflection : Prioritize reflecting on the messages gleaned from tarot readings rather than seeking constant validation.

  • Moderation : Set boundaries on the frequency of readings to ensure that tarot supplements your introspection journey rather than dominating it.

  • Diverse Perspectives : Explore other forms of self-exploration, such as journaling, meditation, or therapy, to complement your tarot practice and foster holistic growth.

Embracing Tarot as a Tool, Not a Crutch

Ultimately, tarot card readings hold value as a tool for introspection, insight, and spiritual growth. Embracing tarot with a mindful approach allows you to harness its wisdom without succumbing to dependency. Remember, tarot is a mirror to your inner self, reflecting the depths of your psyche and guiding you on your journey of self-discovery.

That being said, we all go through phases, so if you need tarot a little more often at one stage of a dramatic life issue, then so be it!

So, the next time you shuffle the cards and lay them out, pause to ponder: Are you seeking enlightenment or escaping reality? The answer lies not in the cards but in your intentions and approach towards this mystical art. Are you seeking clarification from the right source ie should you be going to see a professional instead? We can sometimes see what WE WANT TO SEE in a reading instead of what really is!

Let tarot be a beacon of wisdom on your path, guiding you towards self-awareness and empowerment, rather than a crutch that hinders your growth. Balance, introspection, and a sprinkle of magic – that's the essence of a harmonious relationship with tarot.

In the dance between fascination and fixation, may you find your rhythm and savour the enchantment that tarot weaves into your journey of self-discovery.

So, here's to the tarot tempest that stirs our souls – may we navigate its currents with grace, insight, and a dash of mystery.

Remember, the journey of tarot is as much about the questions you ask as the answers you seek. Embrace the unknown, dance with the arcane, and let the wisdom of the cards illuminate your path.

Seeking solace in the whispers of the tarot? Pause, reflect, and remember – the true magic lies within you.

Unveiling truths, unlocking mysteries, and embracing the enigma – that's the essence of a tarot journey well-trod.

Stay curious. Stay mindful. And may the cards be a beacon of wisdom on your path to self-discovery.
